Vela Insurance Services, a Berkley Company, welcomed 50 young professionals in Naperville, Illinois for the inaugural session of VelaU. This event was driven by Vela’s commitment to helping the next generation of insurance professionals by providing brokers, underwriters, and risk specialists an educational networking event.

With eyes to the future, Vela knows that the changing labor force requires new ideas and solutions. At VelaU, students heard from Bruce Tulgan of RainmakerThinking on how to manage generational shift to find success in the workplace.

Students had the opportunity to learn from claims, marketing, actuarial, finance and underwriting experts from Vela, giving them a full picture of how each piece of our industry works together to provide coverage for tough-to-insure risks. The session culminated in a hands-on case study where brokers, underwriters, and risk specialists worked together on submissions with unique exposures.

Our participants enjoyed a break from policy forms and pricing during a volunteer event. Six teams competed in a fast-paced team-building exercise to build bikes for the children at the Boys & Girls Club of Naperville.
